RV Holding Tank Products

3 Generations - 5 Groups

The most common RV Holding Tank Products include tank cleaners, waste digester's, deodorizer's, toilet tissue digester's, gauge sensor cleaners, and drain valve lubricants.

Three Generations Of Treatment Products

Over the years, there have been three generations of RV Holding Tank Treatment products. First - Second - Third Generation products.

First Generation RV Holding Tank Products

First Generation RV Holding Tank Products used a variety of dangerous chemicals, including formaldehyde, embalming fluids and pesticides.

Most First Generation Products required 8 ounces per 40 gallon tank. These products generally contained harsh chemicals and deodorizer's designed to kill bacteria and preserve the wastewater until dumped into a disposal system.

Many of the chemicals used could also harm septic and waste water treatment systems.

Second Generation RV Holding Tank Products

Second Generation RV Holding Tank Products used many of the first generation chemicals, but added caustic chemicals to their arsenal. Second generation products generally required 4 ounces per 40 gallon tank.

These second generation RV Holding Tank Products still create havoc on septic the Septic or Waste Water Systems receiving RV Wastes. They did a better job of breaking down tissue and solids, but still contain bacteria killing chemicals and strong deodorizer.

Third Generation RV Holding Tank Products

Today's Third Generation RV Holding Tank Products use Mother Nature's Friendly Bacteria to digest and turn organic wastes into carbon dioxide and water. A good Bacterial Digestant Product will contain enzymes and nutrients to jump start the Bacterial Digestion Process.

Bacterial Digestant Products are designed to accelerate the digestion of organic material while maintaining a low environmental impact. They work by utilizing Mother Nature's Bacterial Digestion Process.

5 Groups Of RV Holding Tank Products

Be careful of the Products you use in your RV Holding Tanks. The EPA has published a report for RV owners about safe Waste Water which lists several Dangerous Chemicals that should be avoided.

The University of Arizona also has recommendations and a list of Dangerous Chemicals to Avoid.

Before choosing a RV Waste Water Treatment Product, decide if you want to preserve wastes and Avoid Dangerous RV Holding Tank Chemicals and cover up odors. Or, do you want to actually eliminate the cause of the odors with environmentally friendly Bacterial Digestant Products!

Remember, the primary function of First and second Generation Holding Tank Products was to preserve wastes by retarding or killing bacterial action and mask odors with stronger deodorizer's.

1. Bacterial Digestant Products

Buy Bacterial Digestant Products and reduce the operating costs and time RV owners spend on maintaining their Holding Tanks.

2. Chemical Products

Most RV Holding Tank Chemicals control RV Holding Tank odors with chemicals that are dangerous to humans, plants, animals and septic tanks or sewage treatment facilities receiving RV Waste Water.

3. Enzymatic Products

Enzymatic RV Holding Tank Products use synthetically created Enzymes. Synthetic Enzymes are capable of breaking down organic matter but cannot multiply and do not eliminate the source causing the problem. They need beneficial bacteria to digest the organic matter.

Unfortunately, these Enzymatic Treatment Products may also contain fragrances and harsh chemicals. These chemicals can harm or kill beneficial bacteria, negating the potential benefit of using enzymes.

4. Nutrient Enhancement Products

Nutrient enhancement sounds positive. However, under normal conditions, waste already contains plenty of material to be broken down into nutrients. That is as long as the natural bacteria are healthy and there is no nutrient overload.

An oversupply of nutrients entering lakes, rivers and the sea can lead to a significant decrease in water quality. This decrease in Water Quality can reduce fish productivity and increase the potential for harmful algae blooms. Nutrient enhancement products are therefore of little benefit.

5. Home Brews

Be careful if you are using RV Holding Tank Home Brews. Many homemade RV Holding Tank Home Brew mixtures consist of household cleaners and disinfectants that can retard or kill Beneficial Bacteria.

Also avoid using home brews or other concoctions discussed around the campfire. Realize suppliers spend lots of money on R&D. Why risk the integrity of your RV Waste Water System for the sake of a few dollars.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, use of RV Holding Tank Home Brews should be discouraged. The proportion of each ingredient has not been established and the minimum quantity to control odors and biological activity are unknown.

These "home-made" mixtures cause a temporary shock to biological sewage treatment systems under certain conditions." Some Home Brew combinations can also damage toilet seals and valves.
